Michael Fleckenstein, MA, GRI
President & CEO, HMS Companies Inc.

Michael Fleckenstein spent 20 years in the real estate management and marketing field. He specializes in residential portfolio investments, properties associated primarily with the college student market, and foreclosures. After graduating from WMU with a MA, Michael taught at the university level, worked as an environmental consultant and began investing in real estate. Michael is the President and CEO and primarily involved in corporate management, business development and real estate marketing. He is an avid bluegrass musician and is on the board of the Great Lakes Acoustic Music Association. When he's pickin' he's grinnin'.

Helen Yoder
CFO, HMS Companies Inc.

Helen is an experienced property manager and accountant. She is primarily responsible for managing the company’s financial resources and training staff. She provides reports to clients to assist them with financial decision-making. Her knowledge of systems and management integration is exceptional.

Betty Blake
Lender Recovery Division Manager

Leading the Lender Recovery Division at HMS, as well as doing BPOs and REO work, Betty Blake is one busy gal! Having passed her state board in 1997, Betty became a real estate agent, and has since received her GRI, ABR, EPRO, and Relocation designations. Managing 54 listings, she also works with investment buyers, helps banks sell foreclosed homes, and has begun to work on West Michigan Receivership to help HMS acquire more listings. At home, Betty enjoys spending time with her husband of 34 years and their family—she is a mother of two and a grandmother of four—and loves walking, biking and antique cars.

Nate Christensen
Green Projects Coordinator

Nate specializes in developing and implementing Earth-friendly, or “green,” housing developments. The Ottawa Lake, MI native currently holds an impressive array of degrees: a B.S. in Sociology and Environmental Science, with a minor in Criminal Justice, from Western Michigan University; as well as an A.S. of Computer Aided Design from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. While Nate is busy promoting green living through energy efficiency, and working on several historic preservation and renovation projects, he still makes time to enjoy golf, paintball, camping, and micro-brews.

Amanda French
Hickory Energy Division Manager

Another new addition to the HMS team, Amanda, has taken on the task of developing a new division of HMS: Hickory Energy. As part of the Green Housing Initiative, Hickory Energy develops, markets, and applies green energy technologies. With a great deal of experience in marketing and energy brokerage, as well as a knack for team leading and training, Amanda is a huge asset to HMS! A mother of two teenage boys and two dogs, Amanda also finds time to go to concerts, enjoy backyard grilling and gardening, and make jewelry.

Ruby Garrison
Credit and Collections Manager

As the Credit and Collection Manager, Ruby’s main mission is to collect outstanding account balances from tenants, and other delinquent charges. With a BA in Business, as well as various certifications from the State of Michigan for collections and credit, Ruby is all about getting down to business: “Time is money and money is time! It’s so very important to stay focused and keep up!” she says. But Ruby isn’t just about business; she loves spending time with her three sons, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters. She also enjoys reading, dancing, roller-blading, and hanging out at the beach.

Kelsey Hahn
Accounting Administrative Assistant
Accounts Payable

Kelsey works as an assistant to the CFO at HMS, handling the accounts payable and helping complete many of the accountancy department’s important tasks. Kelsey recently graduated magna cum laude from Kalamazoo College, earning a B.A. in Theater Design and Art with a minor in English. Hailing from Stevensville, MI, Kelsey now resides in Kalamazoo and enjoys photography, graphic design, and travel.

Pattie Janssen
Assistant Property Manager

With seven years of property management experience, Pattie brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table at HMS. Having completed 13 hours of Fair Housing training and earned a real estate license, Pattie’s real estate savvy is an invaluable asset! At the moment, Pattie is relentlessly continuing to work towards becoming Property Manager. She is proud to have raised a special needs child for 16 years, and enjoys walking her dog Buddah, as well as reading, dancing, and going to movies.

Emily Santoni
Director of Corporate Marketing;
Manager of Operations and Compliance for HMS Credit Services

An HMS vet, Emily has spent a majority of her tenure with HMS directing Marketing projects, and is now moving on to manage HMS Credit Services. A proud alumna of Bowling Green State University, Emily holds a B.A. in Interpersonal Communications, with a minor in Advertising and Promotion, and is also FCRA certified. She is currently working on expanding the Green Housing Initiative and HMS public relations in addition to spearheading HMS Credit Services. The Kalamazoo native is an active alumni member and former chapter President of Alpha Phi sorority at BGSU.

Steve Stayner
Maintenance and Project Manager

As Maintenance and Project Manager, it’s Steve’s job to make sure that all tenants are happy and comfortable in their homes, and that everything is operating properly! With such a big job, Steve has the credentials to rise to the occasion: having earned a B.A. in Business Administration, Steve is also a certified builder by the state of Michigan, a charter member of the SPE, a certified welder, and is experienced in commercial contracting supervision, as well as both industrial and residential building. In his free time, Steve enjoys time with his wife of 32 years, his two daughters, and three grandchildren, as well as traveling, camping, snow skiing, bowling, golf and gardening.

Tina Vincent
Accounts Receivable

Tina is a new member of the HMS team. As a new addition to the accountancy department at HMS, Tina is excited and eager to contribute! She is a proud mom of two grown daughters, one of whom is a recent graduate of Ferris State University, and the other has made Tina a proud grandmother of two. Tina will soon have even more on her hands when she begins as a student at Davenport University in the fall! She enjoys camping, bike riding, reading, fishing, and being outdoors.

Dena Waldon
Turn / Regulatory Specialist

Another fresh face in the HMS office is Dena Waldon. Making sure that all units are fresh and ready to be moved into is a big job and Dena is certainly up to the task: already holding an A.S. in Paralegal Studies and a real estate license, she’s still eager to learn more and is pursuing a B.A. in Paralegal Studies at Davenport University. She stays extra busy working on receiverships, developing a database to recruit new business, and learning the “ins and outs” of HMS. She loves spending her leisure time reading, cooking, fishing, camping, and hanging out with her family.

Mike Wessels
Leasing Agent
Director of Sales and Client Accounts for HMS Credit Services

After finding success as a Leasing Agent for HMS, Mike has taken on the additional task of learning and mastering the Credit Services division of HMS. With an A.S. in Business Administration under his belt, Mike is pursuing a Bachelor’s in Sales and Marketing with a minor in Finance, and has recently become FCRA certified. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his two-year-old son Gavin, as well as golf, hiking, basketball, motorcycling, boats, disk-golf and listening to music.

Lauren Wolf
Leasing Agent

As one of the newest additions to HMS, Lauren brings an array of experience to the leasing side of Hickory Management. She has worked in the real estate field for the better part of the last 10 years beginning as an office administrative manager and then working as an assistant in the divisions responsible for the Marketing, Relocation and Photography of real estate. Lauren is also MLS certified. On her free time, she enjoys playing with her dogs (Bulldog-Smooshie and Boxer-Shady), gardening and spending time with her friends and family.

Jef Wright

Project Manager for Online Product Development

Jeff hails from Flint, MI and specializes in internet and computer related endeavors. While tending to the ever-present tasks of managing the information systems at HMS, Jeff is also currently working on multiple sites and projects for HMS in addition to developing new services and online products to sell. Jeff is also responsible for data forensics and acquisition for Midwest Receivership. Outside the office, Jeff is an avid drummer and musician.
